Onion rings are sure to win the battle against french fries with this delicious air fryer variation. French fries never stood a chance.

- 1 large sweet onion
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons kosher salt
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- Ground black pepper, to taste
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 1 large egg, lightly beaten
- 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
- Oil, for spraying
- Homemade Barbecue Sauce and Not-So-Secret Sauce, for dipping
Preheat air fryer to 375°F.
Cut onion into 1/2-inch slices. Separate slices into rings and place in bowl.
Create dredging station with three separate pie plates or bowls. In first pie plate, combine flour, 1 teaspoon salt, paprika, garlic powder and pepper. In second pie plate, whisk together buttermilk and egg. In third pie plate, combine breadcrumbs and 1 teaspoon salt.
Working in batches, toss onion rings in flour mixture, coating well and shaking off excess flour. Dip onion rings in buttermilk mixture, coating well and draining off excess liquid. Toss onion rings in breadcrumbs mixture, coating well.
Working in batches, place onion rings in air fryer in a single layer. Generously spray onion rings with oil. Cook until golden brown, about 8-10 minutes. Remove from air fryer and let cool slightly.
