If there’s one drink that’s synonymous with Christmas, it’s eggnog. This classic holiday beverage is one of our favorite ways to welcome the holidays.

Prep time: 10 minutes

Servings: 4

  • 4 large pasteurized eggs, separated
  • 3/4 cups granulated sugar plus additional for egg whites
  • 4 cups half and half or heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Ground nutmeg, for garnishing

Place egg yolks in a medium bowl and break them up with a whisk. Add sugar and whisk until consistency is creamy and color has changed to light yellow. Add 1 cup half and half and whisk until well incorporated. Repeat with remaining half and half, whisking well after each addition. Add vanilla extract and whisk to combine.

If adding alcohol, omit vanilla and substitute with 1/4 cup of sherry or rum.

In a clean medium metal bowl, whip egg whites with a mixer on high speed, about 3-4 minutes. Add a couple pinches of sugar to help fluff egg whites, if necessary. Fold egg whites into egg nog mixture.

Garnish with ground nutmeg.

STAY SAFE: Please drink responsibly.

ORANGE & FIELD TIP: Use pasteurized eggs when making egg nog to avoid foodborne illness like salmonella since the eggs aren’t cooked. You can find pasteurized eggs at your local grocery store.

Classic Egg Nog segment begins at 43 minutes 55 seconds.
