We love easy-to-make recipes and this Italian classic fits the bill exactly. In just about 30 minutes, you’ll have a rich, flavorful marinara sauce that’ll be the star of your next pasta dish.
Prep time: 10 minutes
Cook time: 22 minutes
Servings: Makes 4 cups
Ingredients:
- 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 4 garlic cloves, diced
- 28 ounce can diced tomatoes, juice drained and reserved
- 6 ounce can tomato paste
- 2 tablespoons fresh basil leaves, chopped
- 2 tablespoons dried oregano
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Directions:
Pour olive oil into large skillet. Add onion and cook over medium heat until soft and translucent, about 5-6 minutes. Add garlic and cook for 1 additional minute.
Add tomatoes to onion and garlic mixture and stir well to combine. Stir in tomato paste. If necessary, thin sauce with a small amount of reserved tomato juice, ensuring not to add too much. Add basil and oregano and stir well. Simmer until tomatoes have broken down, about 15 minutes.
Transfer 3/4 of sauce to food processor or purée using immersion blender until desired consistency is reached. Return to skillet and stir to combine. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Enjoy!
ORANGE & FIELD TIP: If you prefer fresh tomatoes instead of canned, we suggest using a bottled or canned tomato juice to thin the sauce to the desired consistency.
