These fun construction paper placemats are super easy to make. The kiddos will have a blast personalizing them however they’d like.
Supplies:
- 12-by-18 inch construction paper in various colors
- Yard stick
- Pencil
- Scissors
- Glue stick
Directions:
Fold one piece of desired color construction paper in half lengthwise. Using a yardstick, measure and mark one-inch in from lengthwise edge of paper with a pencil. Draw a solid line to connect the marks. Measure and mark every one-inch along line from one end of paper to the other. Repeat process at folded end. Draw solid lines to connect the marks, creating one-inch wide strips.
Cut along one-inch strips, starting at folded side and ending at solid lengthwise line. Repeat until all strips have been cut. Unfold and set aside.
Measure and mark one-inch lengthwise (18-inch) strips in desired colors. Cut along lines with scissors.
Thread strip of desired color through placemat slits in a basket weave pattern. Repeat with next strip in alternating basket weave pattern. Repeat previous 2 steps until mat has been filled with colored strips.
Using glue stick, place a dot of glue on backside of strips at ends and secure to placemat. Let dry completely.
Enjoy!
ORANGE & FIELD TIP: This is a great craft to keep kids preoccupied while you’re preparing lunch or dinner. Have the placemat and strips precut and let them complete the basket weave pattern themselves.
