We love to think outside the box and use unconventional materials to make something fabulous. This hanging heart decor, created with puzzle pieces, is a fun and unique idea that everyone is sure to adore.

  • 2 24-piece puzzles
  • Red, white and pink acrylic paint
  • Paintbrushes
  • Hot glue gun
  • Glue sticks
  • Yarn or cord
  • Scissors

Lay puzzle pieces, wrong sides facing up, on work surface. Paint wrong sides with red, white and pink acrylic paint. If necessary, apply additional coats for better coverage. Let dry completely.

Arrange slightly less than half the puzzle pieces into a heart shape on work surface, painted sides facing up. Leave about 1-inch space between puzzle pieces.

To connect puzzle pieces, select desired color piece and place, painted side up, on top of two pieces in heart shape. To secure, place dabs of hot glue where upper and bottom pieces overlap. Let dry completely. Repeat until all pieces are connected, reserving 2 pieces for later. If desired, repeat with remaining pieces, creating a third layer.

Flip heart over so that unpainted sides face up. Cut desired length of yarn and tie knots on both ends. Place each end of yarn in peak of heart shape and secure with hot glue. Cover each knot with reserved puzzle piece, ensuring that painted side is facing down. To better secure, press puzzle piece on top of knot until completely dry.

ORANGE & FIELD TIP: This is a great craft to repurpose puzzles that may have a piece or two missing. You can also find puzzles, like the ones we used, at your local dollar store.
