Spring is in bloom and this delightful table setting takes the best loved parts of the season and brings them together in a beautiful pastel-colored dream – bird’s nest and all.
While we don’t get to experience them fully down here in Florida, we love the change in seasons. Christmas will always and forever be our favorite holiday/season to decorate for but Spring comes a close second. The change from the cold white and blues of winter to the beautiful and vibrant colors of Spring is one we look forward to.
When brainstorming ideas for a Springtime table setting, we knew we wanted to take sweet pastel yellows and blues and build from there. We started with one of our go-to tablecloths that we found a few years back at a lovely little antique store in Nebraska City, Nebraska.
The last time we were at our local craft store, we were browsing the floral and wreath sections and came across the grapevine wreaths. Then it came to us! Why not build our table setting around one of them! We selected a 12-inch wreath because we knew it would be just the right size with the plates at home that we had in mind. A wreath was placed at each place setting with a robin’s egg blue plate right on top. The key is to make sure that the sizes of your plate and wreath complement each other. We liked the look of the grapevine just sticking out slightly from the edge of the plate. It gives the fun illusion that the plate is sitting in a nest.
We accented our grapevine with small stems of cotton and leaves that we nestled into the grapevine. We used one cotton and two leaf stems per wreath. Just the right amount in our opinion. Along with the wreaths, we found these adorable little white birds at the craft store that we could clip onto the grapevine. They were the perfect final touch to our “nests.”
We built out from our wreath with silverware and some beautiful turquoise drinking glasses. We laid a delicate white napkin in the center of each plate. The napkins had been embroidered with the prettiest little blue flower in the corner and we thought it would fit perfectly with our Springtime theme. A handful of lemons (the quintessential Spring fruit) in a rustic wooden bowl was a lovely finish to our table setting, proving that sometimes classic and simple can be just as stunning as full and bountiful.
What’s great about an idea like this is how easy it can be customized to what you already have at home or find at your favorite local store. Antique and craft stores are often great sources of inspiration, especially when it’s time to welcome a new season in your home. Spring is in bloom and we couldn’t be more excited.
ORANGE & FIELD TIP: Grapevine wreaths can sometimes look a little scraggly so be sure to trim or remove any wild stems or pieces prior to setting your table. It’ll also prevent you and your family/guests from scratching themselves.
