Who says summer has to be all palm leaves and tropical flowers? Use the florals of the season to create a stunning addition to your front door.

Whether simple or intricate, a wreath on your front door is a warm welcome to both friends and family alike.

While a wreath made of palm leaves, orchids and starfish can be stunningly beautiful, we like to use the florals of the season when decorating our door for summer.

Begin by selecting a base for your wreath, like the grapevine one we used here. Next, draw inspiration for the foliage from what summer has to offer. Here’s just a few suggestions:

  • Daisies
  • Dahlias
  • Hydrangeas
  • Lavender
  • Peonies
  • Petunias
  • Roses
  • Sunflowers
  • Zinnias

Be sure to secure your flowers and greenery to your wreath with either floral wire, which is what we suggest, or hot glue.

A large bow, like the one we made using both green ribbon and one with a greenery pattern, gives an eye-catching final touch that compliments the wreath beautifully. Make sure your bow is a big one. We always feel like it can never be too large. With a little practice, making a bow is surprisingly simple. However, you can also find many pre-made options at your local craft store.

Here’s a few tips when making your own wreath:

  • Be sure you’re using durable materials if your wreath will be placed outdoors. Artificial flowers will hold up well but may fade is placed in a location that receives direct sunlight.
  • Dried flowers and herbs make for a wonderful addition to indoor wreaths and might even provide a little home fragrance, as well.
  • Build a wreath that not only uses inspiration from summer but matches your personal taste and style, as well.
  • Monochromatic wreaths make a stunning and eye-catching addition.

Summer has sprung and a beautiful entryway is a wonderful way to welcome it.

ORANGE & FIELD TIP: Grapevine wreaths are wonderful base to work with because they can be used for multiple seasons and holidays. If you plan on reusing your grapevine wreath, be sure to secure your flowers and greenery with floral wire and not glue.
